Belief

Statement of belief

We believe in the Bible as the infallible word of God. It is the true, reliable, authoritative revelation of God and all his purpose for humanity.

We believe in one true and living God, the holy Trinity of the divine persons in perfect unity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God. We believe in his virgin birth, his perfect life and teaching, in his substitutionary, atoning death on the cross. We believe in his bodily resurrection and ascension into heaven. We believe he will one day return as Judge of all.

We believe in the Holy Spirit. We believe his work is indispensable to regenerate sinners, to lead them to repentance and faith in Christ. We believe every true Christian is indwelt by the Holy Spirit and empowered to live a clean, holy life.

The above is only a brief summary of all that the church believes. We have a confessional position that is set out in the 1823 Calvinistic Methodist Confession of Faith. The only amendment is the article on baptism. The church now respects both historic understandings of Scripture (Paedobaptist and Baptist). Calvinistic Methodism was a vibrant movement in Wales during the 18th and 19th centuries. Its basic doctrines are still a dynamic statement of the Biblical doctrines of grace.
