Meirion Thomas

Paul Gamston

Meirion Thomas was born in Pontarddulais, Swansea. He became a Christian through the witness of school friends. He went to Bangor University, and through Christian Union and Evangelical Movement of Wales camp and conference ministry, became settled in Biblical convictions and future ministry. After working among students for over four years, he came to Malpas Road as assistant pastor for three years.

He returned to Pontarddulais for eleven years to be the first pastor of his home church. He then returned to Newport as pastor in 1999.

He says "You would be more than WELCOME to join us at the church. As you can see, there are a range of meetings for all ages. One of the lovely pictures of a church is that of a family community of faith. We hope that you will feel that WELCOME and sense of belonging at the church."

"One word of warning – we are imperfect people! But we know a God who changes, perfects, and gives us grace and love in big portions. The church respects and values its historic links with its past heritage so ancient psalms and hymns are not dumped. But we realise that God’s people are to be relevant to today, so new songs and hymns are also sung. Every service is a family service, but on special occasions we will put particular emphasis on family. Come and see!

If we can help you in any way and be of service to you and your family, please feel free to get in touch."

Paul Gamston was born in Gloucester, England. His parents were Christians and a godly example. They took him to Trinity Baptist Church where he learnt more about the amazing news of God’s mercy. It wasn’t until he was 15 or 16 however that he came to a true faith in Jesus Christ. This was an extremely significant time in his life, when a burden to preach this Gospel was begun.

At Reading University this burden increased during under graduate and post-graduate degrees. Carey Baptist Church was his spiritual home in Reading for 8 ½ years, where he had further opportunity to grow in his faith and serve others.

Christian Union, Evangelical Movement of Wales Camps and mini missions with Cheddar Baptist Church were among the other opportunities to share the glorious gospel of Jesus.

He was appointed Assistant Pastor in April 2003 and Associate Pastor in April 2006.
